Inspired by altruism, our main goal is to enrich the lives of those around us by creating opportunities and bringing necessities to communities in our areas. Through Smithville Charitable Foundation, we passionately gift money and supplies to charities and public organizations.
Smithville Charitable Foundation is a private organization, officially formed in October 2007. We may accept donations from other sources to benefit charitable or public organizations. Since beginning the foundation, we’ve experienced great success in each of our communities. The stories are truly inspiring.
Many educational opportunities have been realized through the grants we’ve provided. One allowed a class to take a field trip rafting down the Wabash River, visiting historical sites and vividly experiencing local history as they went. Another donation supplied new computers for Hymera Elementary School, giving the students access to enhanced resources for learning.
As a private foundation, we work closely with community foundations in each of our surrounding counties. We support the community foundations and a variety of causes related to religion, education, health, relief of poverty or distress, and various public organizations.
YMCA—Strong Past, Bright Future
February 28, 2012
October 17, 2011—Smithville Charitable Foundation has donated $250,000 in support of the YMCA Strong Past, Bright Future Capital Campaign. The gift was given and earmarked for the building of a new YMCA facility on the northwest side of Bloomington.
The new facility will be just minutes from the town of Ellettsville, which is the heart of Smithville’s service area. The new location will benefit many Smithville customers and employees.
A major focus of the new YMCA will be the early childhood development center. A much-needed addition to the area, it will be an asset to families and working parents in Ellettsville and throughout northwest Monroe County. In honor of Ms. Darby A. McCarty and Smithville Charitable Foundation, the YMCA will name a wing of the new early childhood development center: “The Smithville Charitable Foundation School Readiness Wing.”
