2017 Success Stories

Smithville Charitable Foundation is looking ahead to applications for our Spring 2018 grant cycle, but we’re already hearing reports of exciting progress from our 2017 grantees. From purchasing furniture to benefit Lawrence County Arc, to hiring additional medical professionals at Tulip Tree Family Health Care to serve uninsured or under-insured individuals, our grantees kept busy in the last 5 months. Students at McCormick’s Creek learned how to build and launch model rockets in their After School Program, and Friends for Kids of Daviess County held a lifeskills class for students to learn about Fire Safety and Prevention. As many of our current grantees wrap up their work in the next few months, we look forward to sharing many additional stories of community projects that improve quality of life in central and southern Indiana.

If you serve a Smithville Charitable Foundation county and have a great project idea that needs funding, please email us with a grant inquiry or apply online!

Announcing Changes to the 2018 Grants Cycle

SCF is making big changes!

We will now offer two opportunities each year for organizations to submit grant proposals. The spring grants cycle will be open January 29 – March 26, 2018, with funding distributed mid-April. Our fall grants cycle will be open August 1 – September 17, 2018. Funding distributions will be made by the end of October.

In order to provide assistance for the many small projects that make a big difference in our counties, SCF’s policy is that organizations may only receive funding in one grant cycle per year. Grantees are welcome to apply for funding in future years after completing their current project so long as they remain in good standing with SCF and return their final grant report in a timely manner. We will continue to accept requests from a wide variety of causes that benefit Smithville communities in our designated counties: Boone, Brown, Daviess, Dubois, Gibson, Greene, Hendricks, Howard, Lawrence, Martin, Monroe, Morgan, Orange, Owen, Posey, Sullivan, and Tipton.

Additionally, we will be using new software to collect and evaluate grant proposals. All applicants will need to create a new account, and we would recommend allocating extra time to become familiar with the software. However, this change will allow us to provide a single platform for grantees to view their accepted proposals and submit grant reports. A link to the application will be available on our website when the grant cycle opens.

We are excited for the improvements this will offer to our grantees! Questions about our new grant cycles and application process can be directed to our Interim Director, JoAnna Ness, at joanna.ness@smithvillefoundation.org.
